GPS-Enhanced Overland Gamma Surveys
Overland Gamma Surveys have become an essential part of the characterization and evaluation of sites which were, or suspected to have been contaminated with radioactive material. With the advent of sub-meter accurate Global Positioning Systems, reporting the location and level of radioactivity over a large area can be performed with a high degree of reliability, and with MJWTS’s proprietary software this can all be done in near real time.MJWTS has assembled the equipment, created the software and developed the methods enabling us to perform these surveys with efficiency, accuracy and, in most cases, same day reporting of the raw data.
How does it work?
MJWTS has developed a system by which the radiation measurements and the GPS data is collected and synchronized on a single machine using the same system clock. The data is then sent to a server via wireless broadband for storage and processing into a survey report. The report is then sent back to the survey team before leaving the survey site to check for errors or missed data. The secret to our rapid reporting capabilities is MJWTS’s proprietary software. Combining and synchronizing the radiological data with the GPS data into one database and creating files which allows for displaying the data on a popular GIS system, populating a spreadsheet or plotting the data on a chart.
With the advent of sub meter accurate GPS receivers and broad band wireless services it has become possible to perform radiation surveys of large areas while matching each reading with a GPS location and then transmitting that information to any location with web access.Post survey data processing is kept to a minimum due to the methods used to collect the radiological and GPS data, while maximizing reporting speed. Most surveys can be processed and a report generated before the field team leaves the survey site.
For use on any terain and in any weather conditions
For paved or flat ground our carts can be used to provide a very consistent and accurate survey, even in inclement weather.
For rougher, irregular terrain, our backpack systems can provide near the same consistency with the same accuracy as the carts.
